Title : Pakistan Floods - 2015

Huge devastation occurred due to the recent flooding in many districts of KPK and Punjab region- Pakistan. Pakistan being part of South Asia Region, the most vulnerable and disaster-prone of all other countries in the regions, has regularly experienced a wide variety of natural disasters. Monsoon season starting in Month of July every year brings miseries and challenges for the local communities and authorities at large. This year the torrential rains and floods in the rivers have resulted in devastating impact on the local inhabitants.

 

It is reported that in July 20-22 2015 floods impacted several thousand villages in District Layyah and Muzafargrah Punjab almost affected more than 250 villages, out of total 53 are considered severely damaged, resulting in large scale damage and destruction of houses and agriculture land. In many areas, water levels increase to the level destroying complete infrastructure of local houses, hospitals, basic health facilities and resulting in mass scale displacement of thousands of families in the food affected villages and Union councils of the said districts. It is predicted that flood in coming days will devastate more areas. In response to this, Government of Pakistan and provincial management authority- PDMA and the affected people have urged International partners to provide their assistance and generous support in this time of crises and despair.

 

Charged with the objective to support these flood affected communities in Pakistan GPP Flash Appeal is the part of regional team effort to mobilize resources and seek support under its Flood Response Program.
